The Most Economical DDA Handrail
If you are designing your DDA handrail with a blank canvass, you can make early design decisions to help you get a DDA compliant handrail designed and installed as cheaply as possible. Please remember that there are external factors, for example the strength of your fixing to the ground, that will affect compliance.
Part M of the building regulations explains the requirements for a handrail to satisfy the DDA. You can view it here. The table below shows common values that provide the most economical way to specify your handrail to be DDA compliant and meet each of the three standard horizontal load requirements. Where there is a choice, the cheapest option is highlighted.
