Alvin Freestanding Roof Edge Protection systems are counterbalanced guardrail systems which can be designed in accordance with one of two standards; either temporary edge protection (BS EN 13374:2013 (class A)) or as permanent guardrail (BS 13700:2021).
All Alvin Freestand systems provide protection for working safely at height. If you cannot avoid working at height, these Collective Fall Protection systems protect anybody who needs to access the roof and are rightly the preferred option when compared with individual PPE based systems. With no penetration or damage to the roof, the freestanding systems are very easy & quick to install and can be used on virtually any flat roof as well as on pitched roofs with a gradient of up to 10 degrees.
Our Alvin Freestand Counterbalanced system operates with a curved recycled PVC weight, which does not damage the integrity of the roof surface. A galvanised malleable iron foot, with protective rubber base, supports the handrail post.
Our Alvin Freestand Compact system operates with 550m x 560mm rectangular recycled PVC bases, which again does not damage the integrity of the roof surface. The upright fits into the base using an A58 collar.
Both systems feature 1100mm tall factory preassembled uprights that include open cradle key clamp fittings allowing the handrail tube to be quickly dropped into place, speeding up assembly and saving cost.

Is My Installation Temporary or Permanent?
When deciding which Alvin freestanding guardrail system to specify for your roof, you need to think about what the guardrail is there for. If you want the guardrail to be taken down once work is completed, then you will probably just need a temporary system, but if you want to protect people working on your rooftop, then you will need a permanent solution, as access to the roof will be required several times a year.
