How to Design your Alvin Compact Freestand System

Measure and sketch out your roof.
Apply the following rules to your drawing:
Rule 1
Maximum distance of 3 meters between uprights.
Rule 2
Maximum distance between post and corner 500mm.
Rule 3
If possible, each guard rail run should be connected to a solid structure using a wall termination kit. This keeps the footprint of the guardrail to a minimum. If this is not possible, see Rule 4

If termination with a wall termination kit is not possible, you can use a corner kit to form a 1.8m return finishing with a compact counterweight. Corners must be within 500mm of an upright post and the return section must be finished with an End D-kit.
Alternately you can terminate an Alvin Freestand Compact run with an End Double Weight from the Alvin Freestand Counterbalance range.

Rule 5
Tubes can be joined using a Straight Joiner Kit.
You must use only one joiner per bay.

If you need to leave an access gap you must terminate the run properly using one of the 2 options given in Rule 4. These rails can be extended 500mm from the post and then an end D kit can be used. A corner kit can also be used to return the rail if required.

Rule 7
If there is no parapet wall at the edge of the roof it is important to consider whether it is necessary to fit a toe-board to the bottom of the guardrail, to minimise the risk of objects or debris being kicked off the roof accidentally. All our Alvin Freestand Compact bases accept our range of aluminium toe-boards. Simply slot the toeboard into the slots on the baseplate. Further details can be found on our toeboard pages here.
