How to Design your Alvin Freestand Counterbalance Temporary System
The quickest & easiest way to find out more about Alvin Freestand systems and the standards they comply to is by speaking to one of our friendly experts either by phone on 0208 254 2626, by email at Sales@AlvinKeyClamp.co.uk , or by using the LiveChat in the bottom right corner of your screen.
Step 1
Measure and sketch out your roof.
Step 2
Apply the following rules to your drawing:
Rule 1
Maximum distance of 2 meters between uprights.
Rule 2
Maximum distance between post and corner 500mm.
Rule 3
Either an End Weight Kit or Wall Termination Kit (if being fixed to a wall) Must be used at the start and end of each run.
When a Wall Termination or End Weight is used the next post must have a long arm.
Rule 4
Long Arms and Short Arms must be alternated along the run. You must not use two short arms next to each other.
Rule 5
Select the correct corner kits
(corners must be within 500mm of a post)
Rule 6
Calculate the number of tube lengths you will need for the horizontals to connect to the upright posts.
Once this has been worked out, decide how many sleeve joint kits you will need to connect the tubes together.
You must use only one joiner per bay.
Rule 7
If you need to leave an access gap an End Weight Kit must be used on the upright on both sides of the opening.
When a End Weight is used the next post must have a long arm.
The rails can be extended 500mm from the post then a 'Corner Kit' can be used to make an end D shape. A second corner kit can be used to return the rail if required.
Rule 8
If there is no parapet wall at the edge of the roof it is important to consider whether it is necessary to fit a toe-board to the bottom of the guardrail, to minimise the risk of objects or debris being kicked off the roof accidentally. All our Alvin Freestand Counterbalance uprights are fitted with a base clamp which accepts our range of aluminium toe-boards. Simply bolt through the baseplate using the toeboard bolts (sold separately). Further detail can be found on our toeboard pages here.
Self closing gates are available in Yellow and Galvanised finish.
