How To Terminate Your Alvin DDA Handrail
How your DDA compliant handrail starts and finishes is key to achieving compliance. Part M of the Building Regulations requires a handrail to terminate in a way that minimises the risk of a user’s clothing becoming caught as they pass. The practical solution to this is to start and end a run either with an End Loop Kit as detailed in our page about the D725 clamp, or a Wall Termination, Below we have detailed a few typical examples.
All products mentioned in the following blog can be found and purchsed at the bottom of the page.
If this particular system does not meet your specific requirements/design however, the beauty of our DDA Range is our fittings can be configured to make any guardrail system you wish. If you need further assistance or have any sketches you wish for us to look over and advise, please contact us on 020 8254 2626 or email sales@AlvinKeyClamp.co.uk
Option 1 - Straight Wall Termination
This option is useful when the handrail needs to return to a wall at 90º, often either side of a doorway

Combined with our D725 corner clamps, two A10s can be used to form a return to a wall at 90º to the run of the handrail. This is often useful on landings with exposed edges.
Our D005 clamp smoothly returns a wall-mounted handrail to the wall, used with an A09 joiner it simply fixes to the end of your handrail. The D005 clamp is designed to match the spacing from the wall provided by our D745 clamp, in order to comply with the spacing requirements of Part M.
To meet Part M or Part K of the building regulations, handrail should "not become excessively cold or hot to touch" and you should “ensure that the handrail will contrast visually with the background against which it is seen without being highly reflective”. This can be achieved with our Powder Coating service. Very dark colours may get hotter in the summer sun. Find out more information on our Powder Coating service here.
